Ingrown Hairs Removal: Prevention is the First Step

by Candice Zubcic

Shaving is something that most men and many women do on a daily basis. No matter what part of the body you shave, you will always be prone to razor burn or ingrown hairs. Nevertheless, some parts, especially around the facial area, are more prone to ingrown hairs because of the hair's thickness.

There is no need to worry about ingrown hairs if you take steps to prevent them. There are several simple steps you can take to prepare your skin and hair before shaving.

Prevent Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs normally occur when the end of the hair shaft is cut into a sharpened edge that curves back into the same hair follicle. It usually results in a raised infected area that is red and itchy. Oftentimes, the ingrown hair can actually be seen under the raised area.

Most ingrown hairs problems are mild and isolated. However, in some people this can later develop into severe folliculitis. Meanwhile, bacteria and yeast infections can cause further problems. If you want to prevent ingrown hairs from appearing, then you first need to learn how to shave properly. This is especially important for people that have naturally curly hair.

One of the first things you may want to consider is switching from a hand razor to an electrical razor. An electric razor does not cut the hair into a sharp edge, which will be a key factor in preventing future ingrown hairs from appearing.

However, if your preference is inclined towards using a straight razor, disposable razor, or safety razor the you must first prepare your skin. Wash the skin before shaving. This will help exfoliate it and lift the hair away from the follicle. This step will also help soften the hair and prepare it for shaving.

Once you have completed the previous steps and are ready to shave, pass the razor over the skin in the direction of the hair growth. Shave in the same direction every time. By maintaining this routine, you will be "training" your hair to grow straight and not to grow back into the follicle.

When you are shaving, do not pull on the skin or push too hard on the razor. Another helpful hint is using a single blade razor. This will help you prevent a close shave. If you've followed all these steps and are still suffering from ingrown hairs, here are a few helpful tips to get rid of them.

Steps to Eliminate Ingrown Hairs

If you want to remove ingrown hairs you will have to use an exfoliating product to open clogged pore and allow the hair to grow outwards. An effective exfoliant is one that contains salicylic acid. This beta hydroxy acid unclogs pores by providing a chemical exfoliation.

Obviously, ingrown hair prevention is preferable to ingrown hairs removal, however, sometimes it is almost impossible. BIOSKINRELIEF is a safe and natural skin care product that can help treat ingrown hairs and fight off any type of skin infection.
