Dry Skin Relief - Soothing Tips for every day of the Year

by Martha Fitzharris

A lot of people complain that their skin gets tighter and itchier during the winter months. While others complain that summer heat wrecks havoc on their dry skin. It seems that regardless of the season, dry skin can be a problem.

Each one of the four season comes with its own set of problems. Winter wind and cold air draw out the moisture from your skin. While the summer months mean that you'll be exposed to more pool time, which in essence means you'll have more contact with irritating substances such as chlorine.

Dry Skin Care during the Winter

You might expect a skin moisturizer to solve your dry skin problems, but this isn't always the case. What you use on your skin is just as important as how to use it.

For example, dry skin can be successfully treated with a creamy moisturizer or natural oil such as rose hip oil, however, you should apply it immediately after your skin has been exposed to water. This means: get out of the shower, towel off until you skin is damp, and apply your moisturizer. This simple process helps conserve the shower water on your skin.

To cleanse your face you can use a cream cleanser or olive oil if you have very dry skin. The worst thing you can do is use a soapy cleanser. The soap will dry out and irritate your skin while the water needed to lather up the cleanser will take some of your skin's moisture with it as it evaporates.

Other helpful tips that will help avoid dry skin and provide dry skin relief during the winter include:

*avoid fireplaces or open flames

*drink sips of cool water throughout the day

*use a humidifier in your home or work space to restore moisture to the atmosphere

Summer Dry Skin Care

If you're hoping that summer will come along to be free of dry skin problems, you may be in for a surprise. During summer dry skin is a commonality because people are more exposed to water, which strips both the natural oils and moisture from your skin.

If you want to enjoy the beach and avoid dry skin problems then it's important that you follow a few suggestions. Firstly, take your moisturizer and sunscreen with you wherever you go because these products will help protect your skin and keep it moisturized.

If you are going to go to the pool, then make sure that you rinse the chlorine from your body once you get out of the water. Pat your skin dry and reapply your moisturizer and sunscreen. This will protect your skin from chlorine exposure and keep the pool water from robbing your skin of moisture.

The same is true if you decide to go for a swim in the ocean. As soon as you get out of the water, rinse off the salt, pat dry and apply your moisturizer and sunscreen.
